FedSoc and ALDF Clash over Chick-n-Strips
Calls have come from those in the animal rights community to get the Federalist Society to adopt the plant-based pledge. As of now, the society still has an exclusive catering agreement in place with national fast-food giant Chick-fil-A.
In response to the backlash, FedSoc leaders have put out a statement, reading, in part: “The last thing we want to do is create a space where some individuals feel they can’t participate.” Still, the society is not currently looking to change their menus, citing a set of shared values they have with Chick that is hard to find with other restaurants.
Leaders of the Berkeley Law chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund, who had hoped to bring more ecofeminist perspectives to the space, were disappointed, noting that “we had expected more from FedSoc, especially given that they fuck animals.”
